My name is Becky West and I live in Six Lakes, Michigan. I am
a teacher/librarian in a neighboring school district. After 25
years at the elementary level, I spent the last two years at
the Middle School/High School. Now I get to do all of it
K-12! I have raised chinchillas since 1998, when I received
my first chinchilla. My plan was to have one pair that would
live at school with me. I found a mate for Cricket, my first
chin, but wasnt able to stop there. I continued to buy new
chins, slowly at first. Eventually, I had too many chins for
the basement, and we made the decision to build a barn.
In the fall of 2000, we built a garage for the animals. It
is 24 by 24, although the animals were in a section that is 18
by 24. The other 8 feet housed my husbands tractor and an
area for cage building. The barn is air conditioned and
heated. I asked lots of questions before building and Im very
happy with the set up that we have.
We made the decision to expand a bit almost a year ago.
Weve purchased a shed and the things that were housed in the
8 foot section of the barn were moved out so that I could put
animals in that section. We currently have approximately 100
breeding females, with a total of around 200 animals in the
barn.
I breed for all colors except sapphire. I am especially
happy with my white, standard and ebony lines. Im continually
improving the quality of my breeders, working to produce
healthy, show quality chins of many colors.
I always have babies available for sale. Feel free to
contact me with any questions you might have. I can be reached
